About Reames Employee Benefit Solutions, Inc.

Our roots run deep in Central Florida, and it is here that we have chosen to focus on providing service to our clients.  Our affiliation with United Benefit Advisors (UBA) provides us with national recognition and the resources to support our clients through the ever changing world of insurance.

“Gator Bert” Reames started building a clientele of satisfied insurance customers in 1955.  His first two Daytona Beach group cases in 1956 were a restaurant and a linen service.  Both provided life and health coverage for less than ten dollars a month per employee.  Health care delivery, along with life and health insurance has changed dramatically during that period of time.

While life and health products have changed, the job of the conscientious agent remains the same – find the product to meet the client’s need at an affordable price and then service it properly.  In addition, avoid offering solutions until there is a clear understanding of the client’s needs.

As a business we endeavor to carry our share of the load in community responsibilities.  We take particular interest in issues affecting children.  We are active supporters of the Chamber of Commerce, Daytona Beach Life Underwriters Association, United Way, Red Cross, Public Education Organizations and Halifax Community Health Systems to name a few.

Our business operating style tends to be more relaxed than some of our competitors.  All our employees have been around long enough to have experienced a stressful environment elsewhere.  Our staff members are professionals who go the extra mile for our clients.

Agency Principals

Bert Reames, CLU, Principal

Bert Reames, better known throughout the insurance profession as “Gator Bert”, admits to toiling in the profession and field of Employee Benefits for the past fifty-nine years. He has been a pioneer in the development of voluntary Life, Disability, Health and Dental benefits for employees. He designed and implemented the first wholly voluntary disability program written by UNUM.

Over the years he has served as a consultant or broker for several governmental bodies and a number of large non-profit institutions. His favorite work is designing benefits that are of real value to rank and file employees, involving a mix of employer and employee premium dollars to keep costs down.

He has been a contributing author to many publications, including The Society of Financial Service Professionals monthly magazine and Benefits Advisor Today. Bert also writes a regular article for several newletters distributed to some of the area’s largest employers.

Bert has earned respect throughout the area for his involvement and assistance in community needs. He has been honored by Halifax Health, the American Red Cross, the United Way, Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce, Daytona State College, Bethune-Cookman University, Children’s Advocacy and The Civic League.

He is a native Floridian, a veteran of WW II, attended the University of Florida receiving the distinction of an honorary alumnus and is a member of Florida Blue Key. Bert received a BA Degree from Drury University. In 2016 he received an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from Bethune Cookman University. He is a Chartered Life Underwriter and a Charter Partner of United Benefit Advisors.

Julie Reames, RHU, Principal

Julie Reames was “drafted” into the insurance business in 1998 by her husband, Bert. In 1999 they partnered to form the insurance agency now known as Reames Employee Benefits Solutions. In her former life she worked for 27 years at Halifax Health, most of her service was working in Risk Management.

A licensed life and health agent for over 18 years, she works closely with all the staff to ensure new business and renewals are handled to the client’s complete satisfaction. In addition to handling agency financial matters she is the primary liaison to our key accounts. Julie received her Registered Health Underwriter designation from The American College and serves as the Treasurer for United Benefit Advisors of Florida, as well as being a Charter Partner of United Benefit Advisors. In addition to her responsibilities with the insurance business, she also manages several other corporations in which she and Bert are partners.

Julie and Bert continuously support several local foundations and nonprofit organizations, and are committed to building a better community. She was recently named one of the 2013 Influential Women in Business in the Volusia/Flagler area.

She is a native of Daytona Beach, born at Halifax Health and graduated from Mainland High School. Julie and Bert enjoy traveling, especially their annual summer trip to Maine.

Alan Florez, CEO of Halifax Insurance Partners

An executive in the insurance intermediary industry for over 12 years, Mr. Florez has presided over high performing agencies achieving significant and consistent growth. Previously, Florez served as Governor Jeb Bush’s Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs and as his Special Assistant.

Mr. Florez is a graduate of the University of Central Florida, 1998 B.S. He was appointed to the UCF Board of Trustees in 2006 by Governor Jeb Bush and then subsequently by Governor Rick Scott. In addition, he currently serves on the board of directors for Stewart-Marchman-Act Foundation, FUTURES Foundation for Volusia County Schools, the UCF Athletic Association and the UCF Foundation. Alan and his wife, Justine, have two children and currently reside in Ormond Beach, Florida.

Alex Doberstein, ChHC, RHU, REBC, Executive Vice President

Alex leads the Reames Employee Benefits Solutions division of Halifax Insurance Partners. Alex received his introduction to the industry at Temple University where he received his BBA in Employee Benefits which is a part of the Risk, Insurance and Healthcare Management department of the Fox School of Business. Continuing to expand his industry knowledge, Alex passed designation exams to become a Chartered Healthcare Consultant, Registered Health Underwriter and Registered Employee Benefits Consultant. Prior to joining Halifax Insurance Partners, Alex worked in various capacities and markets for a national benefits brokerage.

Alex and his fiancée Kate have roots in the Northeast and Midwest but now proudly call Daytona Beach their home. Alex enjoys staying active in the community including being on the board of directors for the Halifax Health Foundation.

Pamala McIntire, Benefits Advisor

Pamala joined our team in August of 2013. With 12 years of experience on the health insurance carrier side with Florida Health Care Plans, she brings extensive knowledge of plan design, underwriting strategies, and navigation through health care systems.

Pamala has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing, with a minor in Computer Science from Florida Metropolitan College. She also has a strong accounting background, giving her the ideal skill set to consult and advise clients on the most efficient allocation of their benefit dollars.

Born in Florida, raised in Connecticut, Pamala left her previous position as Accounting Manager with a compliance company in Connecticut to “come home”. Her volunteer activities in Connecticut included HazMat Operational Firefighting, water rescue, and driving for the ambulance crew. Pamala continues her volunteer activities here in Florida with Flagler Volunteer Services.

Paul Schandel, REBC, Benefits Consultant

Paul has been a member of our team since 2007. He is a licensed life and health agent since 2003 with previous experience on the carrier side, working for Florida Health Care Plans. Paul specializes in group health and voluntary plans for large and small businesses. In addition, he also has previous experience in operating a small business.

Paul grew up in Ormond Beach where he still resides. He attended Spruce Creek High School and was in the International Baccalaureate program. After High School, he continued his education at the University of Florida where he received a B.A. degree in Business Administration in 2003. He has also obtained the Registered Employee Benefits Consultant designation from The American College of Financial Services. Today, Paul is active in the community where he is the President of the Rotary club of Daytona Beach West and a current board member of several local organizations.

Bob Berk, Executive Benefits Specialist

Bob started in the insurance business in 1987 as an agent and registered representative. He has also worked as a wholesaler, agency manager and agency owner as well as a continuing education instructor working with agents throughout the state of Florida. Bob is very active in Central Florida chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and served as President in 2008-09.

For over 30 years Bob has worked with individuals, professionals and small business owners helping them with their personal insurance needs as well as the needs of their employees. Currently his expertise is in the area of Executive Benefits, Personal Protection Coverage and Wealth Management. Specifically, he works with Business Owners, Executives and Managers to maximize their employer sponsored benefits and fill in any gaps with supplemental planning and products.

Bob is born and raised in Central Florida and has been residing in Volusia County since 2009. He is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and a past Chairman of the UCF Alumni Association.

Sarah Beaudoin, Account Manager

Sarah Beaudoin has a background as a training coordinator for a major corporation. Sarah has completed both a Pharmacy Technician Certification and EMT Certification at Holyoke Community College in 1992. She has been in the insurance business for almost 20 years and holds Florida Licenses for Life, Health, and Variable Annuity as well as Property and Casualty.

Sarah met Bert and Julie Reames through her Property and Casualty connections and joined their firm over 14 years ago. She works with many of our customers and has responsibilities with new business, renewals and claims processing as well as managing all files and record keeping.

Tired of the cold weather, Sarah became a Florida transplant, moving from Massachusetts in late 1994. She is a widow who had been married to a native New Zealander for over 20 years. Together they chose dogs over children and Sarah currently has two dogs, Amber Bok and Hanna Mae. Their hobbies included camping in National and State parks throughout the US, touring many of the parks on her husband’s Harley Davidson, and now Sarah will continue on her own on the same Harley Davidson. Amateur photography of wild life and landscape is a passion of hers.

Elaine Rosa, Account Manager

Elaine is a licensed life and health agent and has been a member of our agency team since its inception in January of 1999. She is responsible for the day to day management of the Volusia County School District Group Life Insurance program and assists the District employees with their life insurance requests from the beginning of their employment to their retirement.

Elaine is originally from New Jersey and moved to Port Orange, Florida in October of 1986 where she still resides. She graduated from Berkley Secretarial School in New York City and then worked for the Daily News in the Big Apple. After leaving the Daily News, she worked for a Private Investigator in New Jersey before moving to Florida. She has over 30 years of office management experience and covered a variety of office support roles.

After all these years of living in Florida, she hasn’t lost her northern accent and when you speak with her, it’s very apparent where she was born and raised. She is an animal lover and great supporter of the Halifax Humane Society from where she adopted all of her animals and helped saved their lives.
